We are pleased to report the first mental health training session benefited 25 people, including:

  • health care workers - psychiatric nurses and students of medicine and psychology
  • nurses and social workers from the Tanka Tanka Psychiatric Hospital
  • representatives from the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Gambian Prison Department, the Ministry of Health Gambia, Gambia Press Union and a range of psychosocial organizations.
This is what some of the participants said about the opportunity to attend mental health training, which is rare in Gambia:

“Very educative training!”

“I am looking forward for subsequent activities.”

“It is important that we all know how to handle depression. Depression is a concern! On way or the other many have gone through depression.”

“This training and the collaboration is a great aggrandizement for my country, thanks, keep it up!”  We at EAAD learned about West African culture and traditions, and their role and meaning in health and mental health. We also gained knowledge about the Gambian health care system.

The participants feedback showed the huge need for creating mental health awareness and building the capacity of health workers and stakeholders in Gambia.

We very much hope to continue our collaboration with the Supportive Activist' s Foundation in Gambia.

Help us deliver more mental health training in Gambia!
