Über uns

Grassroot Soccer (GRS) is a South African based, Section 21, non-profit organization that uses the power of soccer in the fight against HIV and AIDS, GRS provides youth worldwide with the knowledge, life skills and support to live healthier lives. The approach taken uses the power and popularity of soccer to break down cultural barriers, educate youth and bring communities together to communicate HIV/Aids.

Founded by former professional soccer players in Zimbabwe in 2002, GRS trains African soccer stars, coaches, teachers, and peer educators in the world's most HIV-affected countries to deliver an interactive HIV prevention and life skills curriculum to youth. Translating research into action and leveraging the excitement around the 2010 World Cup™, GRS attracts and engages young people through schools, community outreach, and social multimedia.

The World Cup was truly an amazing time in South Africa and around the world.  Grassroot Soccer graduated close to 5000 boys and girls in our Skillz Holiday programs, the large majority of whom went to games!!!!

For Grassroot Soccer the 2010 World Cup was a springboard to pledge our commitment and dedication to the fight against HIV/AIDS. Our vision as changed slightly in that we have pledged to reach 1 million youths worldwide by kick off of the 2014 World Cup.

With this in mind it was a wonderful way to start work after the World Cup by receiving a donation from Betterplace.

We appreciate your involvement and interest in Grassroot Soccer, and plan to keep you updated with future projects and initiatives.

Thanks again.
