Since a while you can start your own fundraising event on betterplace.org. Many people have done so, but it seems like the difference between a fundraising event and a project is unclear.

So what exactly is a fundraising event?

First of all: A fundraising event is NOT a project.

Here the answers to the most frequently asked questions:

Who? Everybody can start a fundraising event. Here you find an overview of everybody who’s already active!

Where? You can put up your own fundraising page here. Title, text and picture you can (and should!) choose yourself. Then you choose the project on betterplace.org which you want to support. Now you have to get a move on: Activate your network to get as many people as possible to participate in your fundraising event! Do you need some advice how to spread your fundraisng event? Click here.

When? The time is up to you – you can start right now! Special occasions are also great, like your birthday, a wedding, or interantional days – for example World-Aids-Day on 1st of December!

How? The single steps are explained in this video. Note: The more flashy the event, the more attention it will get. More attention equals more donations, right? Videos and photos always work great, as these (German) examples show: Buchmann mit Bart (Buchmann with beard), Singing for Change, Kurzfilm goes Spendenaktion (shortfilm goes funraising event). We are still lacking good examples from English-native speakers. Fell free to contact us if you start a fundraising event!

Why? A fundraising event supports a project which is already registered on betterplace.org. You can find an overview over all projects here. Of course you can bring your own project to betterplace.org – registering a project is for free!

Only the chosen projet(s) benefit from your fundraising event. betterplace.org does not transfer the donations to the fundraiser. The fundraiser can forward the money to a project and choose a specific need. As soon the need is 100% completed, the project receives the money.
