Die Berliner Nichtregierungsorganisation SODI realisiert seit 1990 Selbsthilfeprojekte der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit in Asien, Afrika, Lateinamerika und Osteuropa. SODI hat bereits über 900 Projekte im Wert von 55 Millionen Euro verwirklicht und damit Tausende Menschen bei ihrem Weg aus der Armut unterstützt. Der Verein bekommt seit 1994 das Spenden-Siegel des Deutschen Zentralinstituts für soziale Fragen für den vertrauenswürdigen Umgang mit Spenden verliehen.

    Wo Minen und Blindgänger drohten, unterstützt SODI den Bau einer Siedlung für 60 Familien. Die Errichtung von Wohnhäusern und Infrastruktur, einschließlich Schule, Kindergarten und Gemeindezentrum, wird mit Einkommensförderung verbunden.

    Frauen sind von Armut besonders betroffen, denn ihnen fehlt meist die nötige Ausbildung, um Arbeit zu finden. Um sie nachhaltig zu fördern gehören zu diesem SODI-Projekt Berufsausbildung,Kleinkredite und Arbeitsberatung.

    SODI unterstützt 320 Familien mit Opfern von Agent Orange und Landminen in Vietnam. Sie erhalten einen Zuschuss für den Bau eines kleinen Hauses mit Toiletten und nehmen an einem Kleinkreditprogramm teil. 500 Euro an Spenden sind für ein Haus nötig.
