Talking Boxes Project came as a result of the issues raised by the girls during the Girls Speak Out Forums. We decided to take boxes to schools where children would write notes and put in the boxes which we lock up and only open to collect the contents. Issues shared by the children are always very painful secrets that they cannot talk about to anyone they do not trust. We are currently working with 12 schools in Kibera on this project with 5 volunteers helping us to collect and document the contents. The project aims to create a platform for responses to issues raised by the children through the talking boxes. This project will benefit the school children, emphasis will be given to the girlchild otherwise all the children will be reached. The donations will help to train the volunteers as paralegals to offer guiding and counselling to the children. Some will be used for immediate needs like the purchase of sanitary pad, pay registration fee for exams for needy children. The biggest challenge is how to help children in poverty especially the girls who are heads of household due to orphanhood.
