Our NGO BASS facilitating a primary education program for 50 out of school slum children at Sundarayyacolony, of Guntur city with the Partnership of Rajiv Vidya Mission, Government of Andhra Pradesh for the last 18 months.
Currently 200 families are living in this slum in small huts for the last 6 years. All the families are poor working in agricultural fields and other daily wage works. They are not having enough income to give food their family members. All the families belonging to different religions but the major similarity for each family is poverty. In rainy season they are not able to live in this huts and unable to walk in their neighborhood. They are not having even drinking water, depend dup on the supply of government water tanks by weekly. They don’t have any facilities like health, education or good employment except electricity connection provided by government.
Since we are working in the slum, we have identified the out school children here for the last 6 years without education. As per the new act Right to Education, our efforts made to avail the collaboration with the Government of Andhra Pradesh, through Rajiv Vidya Mission (RVM) started a special school for the children from 26th January 2011. We have appointed one academic teacher and one care taker (Aya) for this school. 49 children are coming to the school for the last 9 months.
With the great support and kind donations help form the supporters through Better place, we are successfully constructed classrooms for the children. Now children are very happily sit in a big shed with cement sheets roof. Thanks to all the supporters for this project. Now children are very happily stayed in the class rooms until evening.
Children are very poor and no having good nutrition in their family. Therefore we love to provide one nutritious meal the children every day so that they can healthy and well grow and get education well.
We are running this school for the last 18 months effectively to attend the urgent needs of children to facilitate primary education. But unfortunately the government support for the teacher remunerations are stopped from May 2012 as the project is completed under the project period and still teacher did not get their remunerations for the last 8 months.
Therefore we are difficult to run this school in this slum, so we wish to request your support to pay remunerations for one teacher and one cook to continue the school in this slum. This is an urgent request to strengthen the school in this slum with all your support to provide basic primary education to all the children with us in this slum.
We humbly request you to kindly support our children to continue this school forever.
Thank you
Joseph Anthony
