Growing with Happiness

No matter how poor their homes are we have happy children who say the School of Comedy and Mime fulfill their expectations. Their academic qualifications show how the core group has stimulated them by helping with their school homework every afternoon before the daily artistic activities....http://vimeo.com/23646611

Volunteer dancers!!!

Our project is becoming a space for children and young hip-hop dancers of Granada's streets. For some groups is a way of living. It would be great to have a contemporary, jazz and hip-hop volunteer dancer interested in teaching for 6 months.

Solar Stove

Together with the opening of the Children School of Comedy and Mime, April 13th, German volunteers will start constructing a solar stove as biogas digester construction is nearly finished. They also want to build a mud oven for making bread, cakes, pizzas and lasagna. Excellent tools for the School future restaurant where the core group kids will be chefs, waiters and entertainers at the same time.

Volunteer Rooms

We started building volunteer rooms hoping to have them ready for the German volunteers but ran out of funds....Maybe you could help us by donating to our School House project...It would be a great and needed support as the Children Comedy and Mime School starts April 13 and we are having volunteers from abroad arriving soon to work with the litle ones together with the core group..

Biogas Digester

Since 2 weeks ago we've been hosting 12 volunteer students from Germany who are building together with our core group a biogas digester. This is a great support to our school project as they fund raised the money in Germany to make it possible and also covered their travelling cost. As bigas digester is nearly finished they will start building an oven for making bread and a solar stove before they return back to their country..

New Volunteers!!!!!

Through our betterplace site we have been receiving very interesting volunteering proposals from France and Germany for 2009. Also through our website (www.escueladecomedia.org ). This pushes us to try and finish the school house as soon as possible and start building rooms with plastic bottles for volunteers and groups.

This will be a very interesting proposal for the people of the surrounding communities. Very different to our house construction where we used steel for foundations and frame, this time we will build very low-budget plastic bottles houses as they do in San Marcos de la Laguna in Guatemala (http://www.puravidaatitlan.org/ ). This project was our inspiration.

Your support to our projects is most important to carry on....

Living in our New House!!!!

We moved to our new home Nov. 28. We are living in tents while bedrooms are ready. As we have a nice and big property camping sensation is a great experience.

The core-group kids are spending their school holidays working daily in the house construction but also training and performing.

They are also recycling materials donated by friends for finishing the bathrooms and showers. Soon we'll start with the kitchen and some floors. Our purpose is to start soon the school restaurant for volunteer groups to whom the kids perform every tourist high season. They'll be the chefs, waiters and performers..

The dream is happening in "The Bottles House" and you are welcome to visit us....

Moving Soon to our New Home!!!!

We hope to be moved by the end of November to our new space thanks to the support of friends of the core group kids and the school... We will carry-on finishing the house living in it..

It'll be stimulant for the core group and all who are part of this dream to have the right space for better productions. Also the 40 children we expect to start formally the Children School of Comedy and Mime in February 2009 for a 3 years period. We actually have 20 children in an experimental workshop as an introduction of the school to the neighbourhood. By mid December children will perform what they have learned since September.

Last week we received 31 boxes containing circus materials donated from Germany by Henry’s circus equipments, friends and good-willing people. Balls, diabolos, unicycles, clubs, make-up and others will be for the 110 children we will have by February 2011. By that time we also expect to be working with young people and the community.

Being the school surrounded by the poorest communities of Granada there is much work to do keeping children out of the streets and involve in creative activities. In addition to our art project, we want to show other stimulants proposals for the good of the communities that surround us and visitors. Also for Granada and our big Cocibolca lake. With low-cost materials we intend to build:

  • Cabins for volunteers, visitors and groups using plastic bottles or mud low cost construction.
  • Solar stoves and ovens.
  • Bio-gardeners for grey water treatment.
  • Latrines system for producing bio-gas. Others to produce fertilizer.

We are also searching information and need professional advice for building low budget electric solar-wind power systems. In Nicaragua electricity is very expensive. Three times the cost of European countries.
