In the summer of 2010, we visited the co-operative Ilketunjo in the Limu region for the first time. The situation of coffee farmers was appalling -– they lack simply everything they need. The infant mortality rate is strikingly high, caused by the lack of clean drinking water. The textbooks are in part from the 80's and even then there are too few…These are only a few problems mentioned here. All this although these coffee farmers have been growing one of the best coffees in the world for generations. This injustice has led us to want to support the farmers directly with development projects.
In early February 2011, we went back to Ethiopia – and accompanied the successful implementation of our first project (see blog entry below).
