Bangladesh is one of the world’s poorest countries with a population of 140 million. About 76% of the population live in the rural areas and 36% live below poverty line. Approximately 1.2% of total population of Bangladesh is blind. A National Blindness Survey undertaken by the government of Bangladesh in 1999-2000 showed that 1.5% of the population above 30 years of age is blind of whom 80% is cataract. Therefore, it is anticipated that Bangladesh would have nearly 1 million of cataract patients added with 20% yearly incidence. , either government or private care, are inadequate to meet the need due to inequitable distribution of services, physical and geographical inaccessibility and financial limitation.Habiganj is one of the most neglected district of our country due to geographically.About 1.9 million people are living in this areas.CRUD was working in this areas on health sector since 2000.CRUD wants to start this project by making few out reach center in rural and tribal areas, where regular patient screening program will going on. we select the operable patient and refer to our newly established eye hospital. we Catagorise the eye patient in three type.Rich,Poor and Ultra Poor. Rich patient can do operation with OP and other service charge. Poor patient can do their operation with money, Which he have at present on his pocket, rest of the money will subsidized from our project fund.Ultra poor patient will be operated free of cost, their payment will come from our project fund.We have start with two operation Room one for septic and another for aseptic. Hospital will first start on a rented place, after we will buy a land when sufficient fund is available. There will be small pathology laboratories, medicament shop,10 bed for emergency admission. Bed ratio is for both male and female will be same.but all the cataract patient is operated on outdoor based. We emphasize on the female and child hood blindness as because they are the mostly suffer, due to our social Custom. We have two surgeon, one anesthetics One medical officer, two nurse and sufficient field staff. To maintain this expensive project- we have to need financial and instrumental support.Hospital will be named in honor of a German female doctor, who devoted her maximum time for this project.
Collections in Germany are collected by the German charity "Deutsches " Blindenhilfswerk" who will the forward the funds to CRUD for the specified purpose.
