Sri Lanka- Cleaning and Shelter kits for the flood victims

Due to the current massive floods in Australia, Brazil and also in Sri Lanka many people became homeless and urgently need our help. Sri Lanka was hit hardest - currently there is the worst natural disaster since the tsunami in 2004. Over one million people are affected by the current flooding, almost 400.000 people became homeless. Habitat for Humanity provides emergency aid in Sri Lanka. The Habitat Resource Center which already existed before the Tsunami in 2004, offers immediate distribution of relief supplies in the areas which are affected by the flooding. Habitat for Humanity provides the following immediate help:

Habitat for Humanity Emergency Shelter Kits will be provided for people who lost their homes in the flooding. The Kits include among other things: tarpaulin, rope, shovel, hammer and nails, lamp oil and kerosene, candles, mosquito nets and floor mats. The costs for one Kit sum up to about € 51.

The cleaning and hygiene kits are distributed for disease prevention to the people whose houses were flooded. These Kits content a bucket, brooms, cleaner, soap, mop, toilet brush and washing powder. A Kit costs around 18 €.

The content of the kits might change in accordance to the need of the families.

Through the years of work and experience in the country, the Habitat Resource Center has developed to a place for diverse and effective aid. In addition to water, hygiene and sanitation services, whole communities are planned and income possibilities are founded through teaching knowledge in fishing, farming or child care.
