Mae La Klo is a small elementary School for Karen children and children of other mountain tribes living near the Thai-Burmese border. The school is located about 60 km north of Mae Sot, near the connection road to Mae Sariang.
Approximately 150 children are attending the school, which is directed by the encouraged Australian teacher Helen Hall. The school offers children of ethnic minorities the chance to reach an officially recognized education degree. Lots of the children are supported by donors because their parents are not able to finance their school education.
A new library will be built to offer the children a more comfortable learning environment. Furthermore the building shall shelter the existing and newly bought books and teaching material. At the moment all the books are kept in an old, rotten house where they are threatened by the ongoing humidity and the rainfall. Lots of the books are already in a bad condition and mould-infested.
By the use of the new library the books and the teaching material can be stored well protected. Besides, the pupils and teachers will be offered a place where they can meet and communicate.
The project is directed by a team of the registered association Bildungswerk e.V. together with the help of domestic people on site. At the end of December, 12 young people from Germany will travel to Thailand and build the new library within three weeks. In addition and during their stay in the school an appointee will be trained to care for the library in the future.
We will build a proof, humidity protected building and refurnish it.
