Bei der Geburt ist das Risiko hoch, dass Neugeborene mit HIV infiziert werden. Vielen Müttern ist ihre Erkrankung aber unbekannt. Ein Test gibt Aufschluss. Eine anschließende Behandlung kann das Ansteckungsrisiko für Neugeborene erheblich reduzieren.

Eine CD4-Analyse bestimmt den Zustand des Immunsystems. Die Analyse erhöht die Erfolgsaussichten einer Aids-Therapie deutlich. Bisher werden die Blutproben über weite Strecken transportiert. Das verfälscht häufig die Ergebnisse und verursacht Kosten.
