Kavishka is a five (5) year old little boy who is suffering from Downs syndrome was born with a condition called Duodenal Atresia and underwent corrective surgery when he was just 6 days old. Little Kavishka was first diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome when he was just 3 1/2 years of age and this episode was complicated with Hypertension, Encephalopathy and Convulsions. He was treated with Prednisolone and was recovered.

He got a relapse in October 2008 and again he was treated for 6 months with Prednisolone. In February 2010, he had another relapse and responded to treatment. As a result, the serum protein is low and serum cholesterol is high. Hence the child needs a special diet and his urine, protein, blood pressure and cholesterol levels need to be checked regularly at clinic visits. Growth and blood pressure need to be checked monthly and thyroid hormone levels need to be checked in every six months. All these tests are very expensive. Further, hearing and vision, heart function (Echo Cardiography) have to be checked. Dr. (Mrs.) D.S. Kodikaraarachchi has recommended physio-therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy for the child.
