3:1 to SALEM because SALEM convinced The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) with their plan to build a tree nursery in Togo, Africa. The BMZ is sponsoring three quarters of the project costs. But the project also convinced the people on-site:
That´s why the community made 120,000 square metres of land available for the realisation of the nursery. SALEM will also build an education centre, to show people how sustainable forestry works - because clearing the forest to make coal, makes no sense. The forest in Togo is almost gone.
SALEM already runs a 500 square metre tree nursery with a variety of groves. The seminars run here are fully booked, the demand for knowledge is huge and the acceptance of SALEM is great.
The new tree nursery will not only create a livelihood for local people (by selling shea butter instead of shea coal for example) but will also impart the knowledge required to preserve this livelihood.
BMZ and the people on-site are convinced and we hope that you are too! We only need to raise the last quarter of the project costs - 12,000 Euro. The other three quarters are being given by the BMZ. So it´s 3:1 for us, let´s make it a 4:0! Step by step we will also announce here any money we receive via channels other than Betterplace. The very first thing we need to raise money for is a well, after that we will build the seminar house and then we’ll be able to plant those trees.
Thank you for your interest - and please spread the word!
