The Philippines have local health centers in each small town. The government strategically places them in areas with no hospitals nearby. They serve as a “mini-hospital” to those in need of medications for minor illnesses like cough and colds. They also provide a venue for the government to give regular vaccinations for children against measles, polio, hepatitis, etc. However, not enough funds are readily available to supply these health centers with emergency medical equipment and medication to arrest the worsening of critical illnesses like diarrhea and pneumonia in children. There is even a shortage of medical personnel able to attend to kids having the seasonal flu. Thus, a simple case of colds can turn fatal in a matter of hours simply because of the lack of proper medical care. Help-Health wants to assist these health centers secure a better set of medical equipment and an even wider array of medication.
