"We need Water!" – Supply of earthquake victims fall far short
„Adversity, needs and need for help are highly visible“says Heribert Scharrenbroich, president of CARE Deutschland-Luxemburg e.V.. Still the situation for aid organisations in Chile is still very difficult. Michael Raczynski, Chilean resident and executive director of „Fundacion Alemana para el Desarrollo“, a CARE partner organisation, answers in a telephone conference only with one sentence to the question, what is most needed: “We neeed water!”
Due to the latest reports from the most devastated city Concepcion, first diseases are observed, due to lack of clean water. Medicine also ist needed very urgently. “About ten villages along the coast line are completely destroyed” reports Raczynski. “Yet we do not know exactly, what happened to the residents.” Also, several project partners “could not be reached. That could mean everything.” CARE already works with Fundacion Alemana para el Desarrollo for many years.
