The Forikolo e.V. is dedicated to school building and agriculture in Sierra Leone for many years. Sierra Leone is ranked as one of the least developed countries due to the Human Development Index (HDI) of the United Nations. This status is the consequence of the terrible civil war in this West African country which took place for more than ten years. During this time the agriculture broke down and over 90% of all sparely developed schools were destroyed.
Three modern and massive school buildings were built by Forikolo e.V. in cooperation with the communities on site. We are aiming for additional agricultural projects to all school buildings. Therefore fields, seeds and gadgets are being offered to the community and the students within all project villages. By that it would be secured that every student gets a regular meal and that students learn basic knowledge of agriculture. The agriculture projects will upgrade the nutrition situation of the whole community sustainably.
The Forikolo e.V. wants to purchase a walk-behind tractor to make the agrarian cultivation in Musaya more effective. This walk-behind tractor can be used on all soil and is easy to handle. In the case of damage there is no problem to get replacement parts in Sierra Leone and repair the tractor yourself. To cultivate the fields manually is extensive and hard labour. The help of the children could mostly not be disclaimed because that families need to work so much. By using a walk-behind tractor there would be no need for support from the children and by that a regular visit of school will be possible.
All members of Forikolo e.V. work voluntary. All donation are directly and to 100% used for the projects in Sierra Leone. All costs in Germany are covered by membership fees.
