Within a few hours two heavy earthquakes devastated the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Padang, the capital city in the west of the island and its 900 000 inhabitants were hit the hardest by the earthquake. The town is cut off from the outside world. Buildings, schools and hospitals collapsed. Thousands were injured and the number of victims could not yet be clarified. Lots of victims were entombed in the debris.
Save the Children field workers started to distribute blankets, plastic covers, jars and other urgently needed household articles. Thousands of children und families in the disaster area need your support now!
