The aim of SAVE THE CHILDREN is to lower the number of children dying from easily preventable diseases. Every child has the same right to suvive.

Almost 9 million children under the age 5 die from easily preventable diseases. This means that 25 000 children die every day. Most of these child deaths occur in India, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Pakistan and China.

Just six mayor diseases are responsible for the death of 90 % of the children under age 5: Diarrhoea, pneumonia, malaria, rubeola, HIV/Aids and incidents during pregnancy and childbirth, e.g. apnoea, blood poisoning or prematurity.

Many of these diseases could be prevented with simple and inexpensive life-savers: mosquito nets against malaria, oral rehydration solution to treat watery diarrhoea, immunisation against infectious diseases like rubeola, tuberculosis or tetanus and better care of mothers and their children before, during and after childbirth.

The entire health care costs just 50 Euros a year. The treatment contains medical treatment and basic immunisations against pneumonia, malaria and other infectious diseases. Trained community health workers explain pregnant women the importance of hygiene before and after birth and why breastfeeding strenghtens their baby's health .

Together with betterplace.org our challenge is to stop 1000 children from dying from preventable causes until Christmas. And therefore we need your support!

SAVE THE CHILDREN is the world’s independent children’s charity. We’re outraged that millions of children are still denied proper healthcare, food, education and protection. We’re working flat out to get every child their rights and we’re determined to make further, faster changes.
