Moving Right Along...

In the months of July and August, Scope, WTO's partner in India, started renovations for toilets in seven primary schools and conducted "Training of Trainers" programs for 50 teachers. All seven schools have freshly renovated toilets for their students - a grand total of over 1,300 students!

Upon to receiving the approval from the local ministry and school, construction of a new sustainable toilet commenced in early September for an additional school. Building will be completed by the end of September.

In addition, hygiene kits are being distributed to the students. The kits include a bar of soap, a tooth brush and other items to help them maintain better sanitation. The teachers are working with the kids on how to use the products.

All in all, we are very excited about the new and refurbished toilets! A closing ceremony will be held on Oct 2, in conjunction with Ghandhi's birth date.

New Toilet-Blessing for girls

Dear Friends at betterplace.org, thank you so much for gifting a school toilet. We would be beginning the construction work in September. The toilet will be constructed in Ayyampalayam High School, a rural school in Southern India having on roll 673 students  The new toilet facility will be a boon for 338 girls of the age group 11-15 years studying in this school. This is the age when most of the girls stop attending school due to absence of toilets or improper toilet facilities. So thank you so much for providing these girls the privacy, convenience, safety and dignity and the necessary infrastructure for them to contniue education.
