The majority of people in the project region have no access to clean drinking water. The women, who are responsible for fetching the water, must walk for long distances to provide for necessary amounts of water for their families. The water comes from an open water source and is of questionable, health-hazardous quality.
The goal of the project is to improve the drinking water supply for around 40,000 people in 20-25 villages in northern Mozambique. One well provides 20 Litres per day per person for 500 residents. The construction of wells is accompanied by promotion to the population of the link between water, hygiene and health.
