Namibia-streetkids-Gobabis
The Aim of the Project The project aims to provide shelter and food and prepare children for school.
There are currently about 600 children who live on the streets of the greater Gobabis area. Some are AIDS orphans and some are simply abandoned on the Trans Kalahari Highway.
A further long-term goal is to fund tertiary education for academically strong children who successfully complete their secondary education.
Gobabis, a small town located 200km east of Windhoek and bordering on the Kalahari Desert. A donation from “Hilfe für Namibia e. V.” made it possible to convert a former leather factory building into a school with three classrooms, two showers and toilets.
The Scope of the Project
At present the Save the Children Project cares for 40 children aged between 5 and 8, preparing them for attendance at a state-run boarding school after a year. the child leaves the project, opening up a space for another child to enjoy the benefits of the project.
The programme runs from 06.30 to 14h00. The children enjoy a variety of fun activities that prepare them for formal schooling and boarding school life. Two meals a day are provided with the help of food donations from local supermarkets. At night, the children return to their relatives or friends in the township.
The Staff
Five dedicated ladies from the township care for the children on a daily basis. They have served the project over a number of years and are paid a small expense allowance. Mathilde and Emma prepare the meals on an open fire and are also responsible for cleaning. Cornelia, Elsie and Katrina teach the children. They focus on basic things like washing their hands and personal hygiene and also teach discipline, social behaviour in a group and consideration for others.
Project Leader
Gabriele Zoricic from Munich has taken over the project from Lyni Venema who retired in December 2009. Gabriele raised three children of her own and has seven years experience on a social project in Munich. She learned about the project while on holiday in Namibia and was deeply impressed by the caring way in which project was run. The children are treated with warmth, love and respect, giving them an opportunity to develop and grow.
How can you help?
Education is the key to a successful future for these children. The Save the Children Project provides the first stepping stones on the road to a brighter, educated future for these children. Any donation you make, however small, will make a difference and can have lasting, positive results. 100% of your donation goes directly to the project. No admininstrative fees are charged.

    Hallo zusammen,
