Zum ersten mal habe ich von meiner Frau davon gehört als Sie mir davon erzählte, das es sogar in vielen Stämmen noch durchgeführt wird. Sie kommt aus Uganda, Gott sei Dank ist Sie nicht davon betroffen. Ich habe das Buch gelesen und auch den Film Wüstenblume gesehen. Es hat mich schon immer sehr gestört wenn Frauen so behandelt werden. Sie sind gleichberechtigt und haben es verdient mit Respekt behandelt zu werden. Wenn es die Frauen nicht geben würde, gäbe es uns nicht. Ich finde das die Regirungen noch viel intensiver dagegen vorgehen sollten und es hart bestrafen.

Ich kenne das Projekt über Armin Erkens. Von Anfang an hatte ich das Gefühl, dass das Projekt sehr seriös und extrem wichtig ist. Daher bin ich auch sehr schnell zu einem der (mittlerweile glücklicherweise) vielen Unterstützer geworden. Vor einigen Monaten hatte ich dann auch die Möglichkeit Gladys Kiranto zu treffen und mit ihr zu sprechen. Das hat mich nochmehr davon überzeugt, das Projekt auch weiterhin zu unterstützen und es uneingeschränkt weiterzuempfehlen. Ich wünsche Gladys weiterhin viel Erfolg, Durchhaltevermögen und viele weitere Unterstützer, die diesem Wahnsinn ein Ende machen wollen und werden.
I had the pleasure to meet the founder of Tareto Maa, Gladys Kiranto, earlier this week. She is doing a fantastic job creating a safe haven for (at the time of writing) 23 girls -ages 10 to 15 - who have courageously said no to circumcision and forced marriage. When the circumcision period starts in December she expects more girls to seek protection and the Rescue Center will shelter both the girls presently staying with Gladys and the new girls. Not only do these girls need protection, they also need education and one of Tareto Maa's coming goals is to raise funds in order to pay for their school fees. If you want to make a difference in these girls' lives, and help Gladys create a brighter future for them, I strongly recommend you support this project.

I have been a activist against FGM for some time and when I saw the opportunity to do something, rather than just write or speak about it, I wanted to grab the chance. FGM will only be eliminated by a grass roots to tree tops approach. I see myself as a vehicle where I can used by Gladys for change. She is the one with the cultural background and the inside knowledge to work with her community to help slowly change this practice. By providing safety and a choice rather than FGM she is doing an amazing thing in sparing the life-time suffering that comes with FGM. I support her totally in her efforts. These girls are also at my heart centre too. I will along with David endorse all that he has said as a fellow advocate and we will work with the named people to make this vision become a reality.
