Sky is a rescued, handicapped Labrador mix, currently living in south of Serbia – he needs our support!
Sky is an approximately 2-3 years old male Labrador. During a very cold winter-night (-19 degrees) in December 2012 he was found in the streets of Nis/South Serbia in the snow. He was in severe pain, without possibilities to move. A few animal welfare activists from "Dog happiness - Society for Animal Welfare in Nis” and me rescued him and took him to the vet. Sky was examined immediately - the result was that he has a final, irreversible fracture of the spine, without possibility for surgery. Sky will never walk again!
Since than we took all efforts to help this dog. With our appeals in Serbia we were able to organize a foster home for sky in the area of Nis and to pay his first foster costs (Sky has an FB group https://www.facebook.com/groups/535831146427320/). In Spring we found an organization who donated the money for foster, food, diapers and medical care for several months now. Unfortunately this organization is not longer able for help us with money for Sky’s care due to budget cuts.
THEREFORE SKY NEEDS NOW ALL SUPPORT:
Unaware of his handicap, Sky is cheerful, active, clever and very friendly dog with huge desire for life! He is very attached to people and very good with other dogs!Till he finally will be rehomed Sky needs help to stay in experienced foster care, as he needs special care (everyday long walks in wheelchairs, diapers all the time as he has no control of urinating and defecation, warm place to live inside and regular vet checks).
His health condition is good in general, but he has started with kind of compulsive behavior some time ago (biting his last legs where he has no sense). Because of that behavior, Sky made very serious injuries on his last legs, that must be treated additionally and professionally. In the moment, his wounds must be repaired first, and after that we must make decision about "the future" of his last legs, that is completely uncertain as a result of that behavior.. In the end he may even lose them!
Because of that problem we need additional help, beside standard vet costs for handicapped dogs (blood analysis) for vet procedures.
Beside all the problems Sky has, I don't give up from Sky! And Sky does not give up from life! We together decided to try again!
Until a loving home with opportunity of special care is found for Sky he needs to stay in foster care in Nis. So SKY needs now all possible support we can get, as we are in the moment without ANY SOURCE of money for his foster care, medical products, food, diapers and vet costs!
We need support to survive winter and to give Sky a chance to be properly treated until he would be rehomed in loving home. We ask for :
-medical products, regular and additional treatment
-diapers and bandages
-food
-foster care
