Since 2002, Sorya e.V. has been realising several development projects in the rural province of Takeo. In close collaboration with its partner Sorya Cambodia the organisation has been gaining educational experience over several years. Our free private school Alysha Chan in the village Tropang Sdock offers language courses in English and German. Alongside the conventional teaching in grammar and vocabulary, Sorya is particularly proud of the communication classes that are often run by Western volunteers and generally enjoy high popularity. The focus of these classes lie on discussion of worldwide current events in politics, economy, society or environmental issues.
For 2009 Sorya plans to settle a new school branch in order to reach out for potential students, who are interested in further education but for whom the distance from their home to the Alysha Chan School is just too far.
Situated next to the National Road No. 2 and the central market, the village Tropang Tree would be a convenient option for the new school. Especially the 800 students of the Sla Rom High School would profit from building the new site. Sorya already acquired the vacant land in 2008.
With a size of 6x8 meters and a capacity of 60 students, the new school is going to be built in traditional architecture. Adding more classrooms over time shall gradually increase the capacity. The building costs amount to EUR 6000. In terms of the inventory and the required solar power Sorya draws on its own capital, which is based on donations and membership fees.
We thank you for any kind of your support through betterplace.org and hope to meet you perhaps one day in Cambodia.
