Weihnachtsbotschaft 2011 von Room to Read - Neue Unterstützer für unser Schulprojekt
Liebe Freunde,
Room to Read hat wieder Rekordzahlen zu berichten: In diesem Jahr sind über 1.900 Schulbibliotheken und 145 Klassenzimmer eingerichtet worden sowie die Zahl von 10 Millionen verteilte Bücher erreicht. 13.000 Mädchen und ihre Familien werden von Room to Read unterstützt und bis zur Schulreife begleitet.

Ein schönes Stück weitergekommen!
Vielen herzlichen Dank an die Spender unserer helfenden Aktionen (Vorleser.net, "Spenden Sie für Kinder!" und "Kilometer für Bücher")!, gemeinsam wurden 225 Euro gesammelt und die Gelder sind auf dem Weg zu "Room to Read" und die Schule in Bengaluru!
Sagen Sie es weiter (z.B. durch drücken auf die Tasten "Netzwerk einladen" oder "Projekt verbreiten" und weiterleitung der Infos an Freunde und Bekannte, die an die Macht der Bildung glauben :-) - jeder Euro zählt!) so dass wir bald das Projekt abschliessen können - es sind weniger als 1.200 Euro!

I'm thrilled that you chose to invest in Room to Read this year. Your support, combined with thousands of others' has made a huge difference.
In 2010 we established 1,985 new child-friendly libraries and 314 new schools and published an astonishing 120 new original children’s titles in 19 languages. Your investment in childhood literacy has helped us reach nearly one million additional children this year alone - that kind of impact is truly outstanding!
To show our thanks, we have produced a short video highlighting the people and places you have reached this year through Room to Read.
In the ten years since our founding, donations like yours have reached five million children, providing them with libraries, books, schools and the support necessary to help them succeed. Behind each of those five million children is a unique story of spirit, commitment, and ingenuity. We have included some links at the bottom of this letter that help bring a few of those stories to life and connect you to the people at the receiving end of your investment. It’s hard to not get carried away with superlatives when talking about the impact of your support -and for good reason. It is overwhelming to see how quickly and tenaciously a community responds to development inputs like libraries, schools and opportunity for lasting change. These are parents, teachers and community leaders that appreciate the value of literacy for their children and their future. I never get tired of walking into one of our libraries to find well-worn learning games and dog-eared books that have taken a beating - not out of carelessness, but out of pure love from an eager audience. Kids secret away to quiet corners to fall under the spell of a colorful book with an engaging story. What we consider a basic right - literacy - they protect as a cherished privilege.
The future impact that love of reading can have on their lives is immense. Independent reading and independent thinking go hand in hand. The toolset to broaden your horizons and determine your own destiny starts with literacy. Girls who stay in school earn higher wages and tend to have smaller, healthier families, who are vaccinated, well-nourished, and educated. The investment you have made in Room to Read will pay dividends for generations to come.
This holiday season, we have a tremendous opportunity to double the impact of your giving.

Er erinnert sich an das Gefühl damals, als er in die leere Bibliothek der Schule in Bahundanda, Nepal, hereinkam, und wie es heute dort aussieht, 10 Jahre und 10.000 Schulbibliotheken später. Dear helpers and friends,
Two months ago, I had an inspiring déjà vu moment. There I was, back in the small Nepalese village of Bahundanda, the site of Room to Read’s very first library. We had opened the library just over a decade ago, after the school headmaster showed me an empty room and challenged me to return with books for his 450 students. Now, 10 years and 10,000 libraries later, I was back in Bahundanda to pay tribute to Room to Read’s humble beginnings.
I was impressed to see how the library had thrived over the past decade – it had expanded to accommodate more books and more children. The school principal proudly introduced me to two very important students in the 10th grade class “the Top Girl” and “the Top Boy”. As I sat first with Top Girl at her desk, I learned that the school library plays an especially significant role in her life. Three years ago, her father passed away and her mother has since been supporting four children single-handedly. “What does your mother do?” I asked. My new friend’s face lit up with pride as she informed me that her mother is the school’s librarian. The library is not only a source of financial support for her family but it is also a source of knowledge and opportunity. She said, “It’s where we go to read science books and to do maths puzzles, and to read stories. I really love to read stories after I do my homework.”
The Top Boy soon joined us, and I asked what he wants to be when he graduates, he answered without hesitation, “I want to be a civil engineer.” With the same confidence as her fellow classmate, the Top Girl announced “I will go to medical school and I will be a doctor.” She broke into a proud smile as I told her that from now on I would refer to her as Dr. Bahundanda.And then it hit me – the “education lifespan” of these two students has mirrored Room to Read’s existence. A decade ago, these two school children were about to start 1st grade in a school with a brand new library. Just as our organization has grown and matured, so too have these bright young independent readers. Today they are literate in both Nepali and English, read on a regular basis, study math and science in their library, and their eyes are open to dreams of the future.
Our 10th Anniversary is a year filled with celebrations around the globe, but to me, there is no better way to mark the occasion than to see our work come full circle. It’s inspiring to think of the millions of children who have access to Room to Read’s schools, books, libraries and scholarships, and the brilliant futures they now possess. With over 10,000 libraries founded and supported by the Room to Read family and our partner communities, all of us have collectively influenced the lives of millions of students across nine countries and two continents. Like the promising engineer, and Dr. Bahundanda, there’s no stopping us!
To better share some of our important milestones in this special year, we have created a multimedia press release with great visual footage from my recent trip to Nepal. It includes links to photos, a video, fast facts, blogs from the trek, and much more. We’re calling this our ‘Year of Tens’ and I hope you will enjoy learning more about the experiences and stories that inspire us daily here.
Dreaming big and setting audacious goals have always been central to Room to Read’s culture. And yet, 10 years ago, when delivering the first loads of books on the backs of donkeys and yaks in Nepal, we couldn’t have imagined that we would one day be reaching over 5 million children with our programs. Es geht weiter voran!
Liebe Room-to-Read Freunde,
nachdem wir unser Projekt http://de.betterplace.org/projects/1420-schulbibliothek-fur-kinder-in-nepal dank der Unterstützung so vieler Menschen fertigstellen konnten, geht das "Room to Dream"-Projekt weiter voran. Gerade kam eine Direktspende von 100 Euro, die ich direkt in für den wichtigen Bedarf "Schulung eines Lehrers" zugeordnet habe. Wir möchten gerne noch in diesem Jahr vielen Kindern in Asien die Liebe zu Büchern und das Glück der Bildung ermöglichen! Es gilt ja weiterhin das Motto, "jeder Euro hilft!".

Room to Dream campaign - Together, yes we can!
The Room to Dream campaign aims to make the following dreams a reality:
Over 11,000 communities will have their first library;
All of these libraries will have multi-lingual content, trained librarians, and ongoing Monitoring and Evaluation systems to ensure quality;
The libraries will also benefit from the publication of over 500 new local language children's books, representing almost 5 million new books, many in languages that have never before had published children's books;
The libraries will be filled with at least 4 million English language children's books;
Most importantly, over 5 million children in the developing world will have regular access to Room to Read's programs.
To accomplish these ambitious goals, the Room to Dream Campaign aims to raise $60 million in cash and gifts in kind by the end of 2010. We are already half way there (please see the Investor Report 2008), but we still need your support to raise the remaining funds! The realization of Room to Dream will depend upon our successful partnership with donors who share our belief that "world change starts with educated children." This campaign is an important next step for scaling our successful Reading Room and Local Language Publishing models and it will more than double the number of children's lives our programs will reach.

Room to Read hat sich bis Ende 2010 mit dem "Room to Dream" - Programm Großes vorgenommen:
Über 11.000 Schulbibliotheken
Alle Schulbibliotheken werden mit zweisprachigen Büchern, trainierten Bibliothekare sowie kontinuierliches Monitoring und Qualitätssicherung.
Die Bibliotheken werden neue, von Room to Read eigens herausgegebenen Kinderbücher in ihren Landessprachen erhalten (insgesamt 5 Millionen Bücher).
Die Bibliotheken werden mindestens 4 Millionen englische Kinderbücher enthalten.
Insgesamt werden über 5 Millionen Mädchen und Jungen in Entwicklungsländern geregelter Zugang zu den Room to Read Bibliotheken und Büchern.
Die Organisation ist auf gutem Wege, das große Ziel zu erreichen! Bisher sind in 2008 7.048 Schulbibliotheken in Asien und Afrika gegründet worden. Für 2009 sind über 9.000 geplant, so dass das Ziel in erreichbaren Nähe rückt. Weitere Details und genaue Zahlen sind hier: Room to Dream Investor Report 2008.
Room to Read Indien wurde 2003 gegründet. Es war das vierte Land, in dem dem RtR aktiv wurde. Im ersten Jahr konzentrierte sich RtR einzig und allein darauf, das Reading Room Programm - also den Bau von Büchereien - zu etablieren, da die ersten Recherchen ergeben hatten, dass es das beste und differenzierteste Programm war, welches RtR in einem bereits ziemlich überlaufenen NGO Sektor anbieten konnte. Durch das Reading Room Programm schafft RtR ein kindgerechtes Lernumfeld, das den Spass am Lesen fördert in einer Situation, in der die Analphabetenrate hoch ist und wenig Möglichkeiten zu Bildung bestehen. Während die meisten der Bibliotheken in öffentlichen Schulen und anderen gemeinnützigen Erziehungseinrichtungen, die den ärmsten Teilen der Bevölkerung dienen, untergebracht sind, sind etwa 15 % in Gemeindezentren angesiedelt. 2007 hat Room to Read 1530 Büchereien in Indien errichtet, für 2008 sind 806 geplant. Er enthält alle relevanten Zahlen zur Entwicklung von RtR, viele Geschichten und Bilder aus der täglichen Arbeit und zu den weiteren Aussichten.
