I'm in Mombasa right now with Anne and volunteering at the Cecil Kindergarten. I arrived two weeks ago and we have had so much fun with the kids. It's a good school with active, creative teachers who're all wonderful with the children. We visited some of the children at home. They live in a poor neighbourhood of Mombasa. It's nice to visit them there because the people are all very friendly and joyful, but the housing etc. is often quite bad. It's great that these children get the chance to educate themselves and to work to get a better future. Anne also does small projects for widows in this neighbourhood; the mothers or grandmothers of the children of Cecil Kindergarten. She helps them to get an income by starting a business. Then she has a third project with the youth of this neighbourhood. These young people have meetings about HIV/AIDS and teach others about how to prevent HIV infections. Next week I'll go to one of their meetings. We also went to a park with the children where they could feed giraffes, touch tortoises and see (but not touch) crocodiles. We enjoyed so much. It's amazing how much Anne is doing for these people. Many of them want to work and to learn, and she gives them the opportunity to do so. Because she's a Kenyan herself and because she's known all these families for many years, she knows how to support them. I definitely recommend to support this project and if you have the chance to come here to visit or volunteer then you should definitely come and you will enjoy a lot!
