Happy New Year from Cecil Kindergarten
Dear supporters, sponsors and friends of the Cecil kids,
On behalf of the staff and children of Cecil Kindergarten, I wish to extend our gratitute for everything you have donated towards the project. We wish you a happy new year and a prosperous 2011.
It is school holiday at the moment but we have been busy anyway. We have had a sports day to celebrate the 5th anniversary of our school, which was a great success. The children enjoyed and competed in a sack race, a potato race and a skippy race. Also the parents, teachers and our visitor Leo competed, but our visitor Leo was very slow and couldn't keep up with the faster Kenyans. Pole sana, Mr. Leo. He is not yet used to the Kenyan heat. After sporting we enjoyed the biscuits, juice, water, soda and Mr. Berry Bubble Gum and Christmas gifts, all donated by Sunil Shah, director of Umoja Rubber Kenya.
We also celebrated Christmas at the school. Visitors from the Nakumatt supermarket came to pray with us, to sing songs and to donate food, cloths, juice and biscuits. The children sang the song:
Betterplace betterplaceOpen the windowFly me, fly meUp to the skyOver the mountainOver the seaCan you take me there? Can you take me there?
We also received 100KGs of rice and 50KGs of maize from the Kenyan government through district commisioners office Bamburi. We also received books from Mr. Leo and a laptop containing lots of educational software, which the children enjoy a lot. They already learned how to operate the computer and found this very interesting. Mr. Leo also cooked for the children and served the children and was playing with the children. He was a darling to the kids and they really possessed him. They didn't give him the opportunity to play with other children or to do anything else. Leo is a unique person where children are concerned. He spent a lot on the children and even bought them an African board game called Bao and a Christmas cake.
We thank all the new supporters who donated for teacher salaries and electricity connection. The teachers are very thankful and paying them salary is essential in order to keep our staff motivated.
God bless you,
Anne Wambua
