Melina is a young dog (1-2 years), who until recently lived on the streets in Turkey. She was one of the few lucky street dogs who were fed by an animal lover. When she had babies, she cared for them perfectly. One day, the woman who fed her found Melina with burns all over her body. Someone had obviously showered her with acid. Unfortunately, violence against animals is not uncommon in Turkey. Despite her unbearable pain, Melina kept looking after her babies. Banu, a member of Lichtblicke für Tiere, a small German animal protection society, took on Melina and together with a friend now cares for and looks after the dog and her puppies. They receive medical care and are being nursed back to health so that one day Banu and her friend can find a home for them.
Banu has been doing animal welfare for years in Turkey. She takes care of animals that no one wants, and animals which are injured. She looks after them until they are in good health again and then tries to find a suitable home in Germany. Although animal protection in Turkey is still in its infancy, and Banu often reaches her limits, she keeps caring, and she funds everything with her own money. The society is largely unknown, therefore has no donators and no money to support Banu and her friend. In all these years, Banu has never asked for donations, and would certainly not even do it now.
Melina's story has spread through Facebook incredibly fast and many people take an interest in her fate. It was Melina's story that made me contact Banu and I am deeply moved by what she does every day. I have been active in animal protection for several years and I have huge respect for Banu and her friend, because I know what it means financially and emotionally to be committed like this.
Thus, I am starting this campaign to raise donations. Anyone who has spare cash, be it a Euro or a Pound, is welcome to donate! I will keep you up to date about what's happening with your money. 100% of it will go towards the society and will allow Melina and other animals, such as three-legged dogs Fatosh and Missy, or a blind puppy (its eyes were gouged out by a stranger), to be treated.
If you want to know any details, please do not hesitate to contact me (Yvonne_Bachmann@gmx.de)! Together with Banu, I will try to answer all questions! The donated money will be transferred to my account, since I started this campaign. As I am not a member of the animal protection society, I was not allowed by betterplace.org to enter the association’s bank account details. However, I will transfer every single penny! If you rather want to donate directly to the society, you can of course. Please note that those donations will not be displayed on this website but on the society’s website!
