Please log in to comment.

Hi,
I’m the one who will be traveling to Germany and I would like to apologize for taking so long write something on the blog, I feel great that I have finally found time to sit down and write to you all.
It gives me great pleasure to be one the many participants that will be taking part at this years World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development that will held in Bonn Germany from 31 March – 04 April 2009. At first I thought this would not be possible for me because I was struggling to get funding for the trip. But soon enough Holger Volbrecht (my liaison between Namibia and Germany) thought of the great idea to join betterplace.org, where most of the support comes from. I want to thank all the people who have supported me throughout this whole process, either by visiting the site, giving a donation (financially or in kind) or by just leaving a comment. You support has been so overwhelming and I personally appreciate all that you guys have done for me. To my project carrier, thanks for initiated this and taking it all this far already!
More news soon!!

Summer of 2006 in March, I got an opportunity to go with an expedition to the Langer Heinrich mountains in the Central Namib of Namibia. The expedition was meant as a collecting trip at a mining that was openned in the area. My role was to serve as a mentor for a group of kids from NISE (Namibian Institute for Special Education). These kids collected arthropods in a riverbed up stream and down stream of the mine so as to allow for comparison later whether the mine has effects on the arthropods communities in the area. At the end of the project, the kids got to compile a booklet titled "Talking about bugs with hands" hence they had speech impairment problem.
Projects like this target various aspects of life, e.g. social, economic and environmental. You collect arthropods using school kids, this is early exposure to environmental issues and a social gathering of kids and mentors from all walks of life. Secondly, with aims such as impacts assessments, this is sustainable development... a development that is economically and environmentally viable. So, I say projects like these are worth it.Please log in to comment.
