The Toktogul dam provides 40% of the country´s electricity. Due to the dry summer in 2008 the dam doesn´t carry enough water. Consequently this year will be a shortage of electricity for the population. By now the state already regulates and rations electricity which means that the next winter many Kirghiz will be facing a huge threat (temperatures at about 30 degrees below zero). Engineers, working together with Habitat for Humanity and the population of Kyrgyzstan the solution are oil-fired-heatings.

An additional room is necessary as, the planned oil heating would be allowed under no circumstances to be mounted inside of cane reed houses due to fire protection reasons. A positive side effect is that the cooking place can be set up in the new room, because the hot-water container has an integrated external hotplate which also brings the family more space.

The container provides the available heating system with warm water for the floor heating. At the same time it provides the house with heating. The external room will be heated up with radiators that are heated up through the hot water from the boiler.

Population: 5.260.000
