We are an experimental permaculture farm, a community permaculture project and an international volunteer project all rolled into one.
The Bustan Qaraaqa farm is home to our staff and volunteers. It is the heart of the project, allowing us to experiment with, develop and demonstrate permaculture techniques appropriate to the Palestinian context. It also allows us to 'practice what we preach' and live as sustainably as we can.
Our team of staff and volunteers also work extensively with multiple sectors of the Palestinian community around us. We support Palestinian farmers in developing their land and defending it from colonisation, we work in community centres and schools to enhance environmental consciousness and build infrastructure to solve resource shortages, we work with womens' groups, youth groups, other NGOs, individuals, wherever and however we can to implement projects that address the real problems that people face in their lives.
Our work is made possible by our fantastic volunteers, who contribute both physically and financially to the project, generously giving their time, their money, their skills and their blood, sweat and tears to turn the vision into reality. In return we offer our knowledge and experience such as it is (both of permaculture and of Palestine and the Middle East), and the opportunity to actively participate in our project, meet and work with our Palestinian partners, and gain hands on experience implementing permaculture under some of the most challenging yet rewarding circumstances in the world
