In association with the Pour un Sourire d'Enfant, Skateistan has expanded its support of sport and development internationally by assisting in the creation of a skateboard park in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The PSE is a Non-Governmental Organization that has been working in Cambodia since 1996 in the fields of education and vocational training, as well as the medical and social care of children that have been deprived of formal schooling. Many of the young people working with PSE have previously survived by working unstable and often incredibly dangerous jobs but are now receiving the skills and support they need to improve their health, living conditions, and quality of life.

While skateboarding is still quite new in Cambodia, there is already a keen interest in the sport. Local children, including children involved with PSE, are curious and enthusiastic about skateboarding. In response to the sport's new-found popularity, artisans are already crafting skateboards out of pieces of wood and small wheels they have found in their neighborhoods. By building a skateboard park in Phnom Pehn, PSE and Skateistan hope to engage youth in a recreational activity that encourages girls and boys of all backgrounds to build relationships with one another, as well as self-confidence and leadership skills.

The skatepark will be built on the PSE's grounds in a 20 by 30 meter covered space, and will be developed in various stages. Similar to Skateistan Afghanistan, the skatepark will provide a safe and accessible space for youth that have limited access to sporting activities, and will encourage children to have fun and learn together.
