Nearly time for the new school year:

This week will be the final week of summer school at Nueva Esperanza.  More than 200 children have attended, what a success this school is.  Regular school starts the second week in February, and all these kids will have a great head start.

It is very rewarding for the volunteers who participate, and they know they are really making a difference in the lives of young people who have been born into poverty.

Speaking English on Skype:

Some of our students, grade 5 girls, spoke with a classroom in Canada this week via Skype.  Our students don't have English classes as part of the government curriculum in the primary schools.  But these students had learned from the English classes given by our volunteers.  The did so well, we were really proud.  A big well done to all of our English teaching volunteers, past and present!

Volunteering doing something useful:

Most people would like to think that their life has purpose, and that they can do something useful with their time.  Volunteering and working with children can bring you more rewards than you would think possible.  It can be hard work, it can be frustrating, and it can be bewildering.  Doing this in a foreign place, in another language and another culture will definitely challenge you.   It is rising to that challenge that can give you such satisfaction, bring you a new level of confidence, and sometimes change your life.  Even if you just have four or more weeks available, your help will mean so much.  Have a look on our website and email us at la_esperanza_granada@yahoo.com
