The Special School for the Disabled Children, run by the Tropical Health Foundation of India, gives an education to children with various disabilities (Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Downs Syndrome, Developmental Delay, Muscular Dystrophy, ADHD). At the school, the disabled children are divided into classes according to their abilities, ranging from pre-school, primary and secondary school classes right up to to vocational classes, where they are equipped with skills that will later permit them to be employed. They learn to sow bags, make soap, pickles and greeting cards and the profession of book-binding. At pre-vocational level, the children learn to read and write in Malayalam (local language), as well as basic English. The school asks for a financial contribution from those who can afford it and gives the education for free to those who do not have the means to pay.
